Online Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training

A personal journey through culture, history, humour and reconciliation.

Join GunaiKurnai and Maar man Jamie Marloo Thomas for a live, interactive three-hour online Cultural Awareness workshop presented by Wayapa Wuurrk.

Jamie brings warmth, honesty and humour to conversations that can sometimes feel difficult or confronting. Through personal storytelling, reflection and open discussion, he shares the positive experiences, challenging realities and defining moments that have shaped his life as an Aboriginal man navigating two worlds.

Participants will explore Australia’s history—from invasion and colonisation through to the present day—and consider how this history continues to affect Aboriginal people, families and communities.

The workshop explores:

• Jamie’s lived experience as a GunaiKurnai and Maar man

• Identity, belonging and navigating two worlds

• The continuing effects of invasion and colonisation

• Racism, stereotypes and unconscious bias

• The diversity of Aboriginal peoples, cultures and experiences

• Respectful communication and meaningful engagement

• Moving beyond tokenism and performative reconciliation

• Practical pathways towards understanding, respect and reconciliation

This is not simply a presentation of facts and dates. It is an opportunity to listen, reflect, laugh, ask respectful questions and develop a deeper understanding through the lived experience of an Aboriginal man.
