A Wholistic Approach
Personal wellbeing and environmental wellbeing are deeply connected. When children and educators develop awareness of their relationship with the natural world, they also strengthen connection to self, others and community.

Education Framework
How Wayapa fits in education
Wayapa embeds wellbeing, connection to nature and Indigenous perspectives into everyday learning — aligned with existing education frameworks.
-
Wayapa aligns with the National Quality Framework’s emphasis on children as capable, confident learners and contributors.
Through Wayapa, children are supported to:
Explore and express ideas about wellbeing and care
Build language to describe feelings, relationships and experiences
Develop responsibility for themselves, others and the natural world
Engage with learning through movement, story and observation
This approach supports the development of wellbeing literacy — a shared language that strengthens participation, inclusion and community connection.
-
Being the ‘Wayapa Way’ is reflected in children’s ability to:
Make authentic connections with their natural environment
Understand, observe and appreciate natural rhythms and seasonal cycles
Develop caring, ethical and responsible dispositions
Connect personal culture and stories with the elements
Understand how environmental wellbeing relates to personal wellbeing
These outcomes are embedded through everyday learning experiences rather than taught as discrete lessons.
-
The Wayapa Education Framework gives educators and accredited Wayapa practitioners a shared structure and language to embed wellbeing and Indigenous perspectives into everyday learning.
It strengthens existing practice by supporting:
Holistic wellbeing
Connection to nature and place
Inclusion and belonging
Reconciliation and cultural connection
Sustainability and custodial responsibility
It is designed to extend what services already do well — not add another program to manage.
Educational focus
Wayapa supports a broader view of wellbeing that recognises the connection between personal wellbeing, community and the natural world.
In practice, this means learning experiences that build:
Self-regulation and emotional resilience
Cultural understanding and inclusion
Care for self, others and the environment
These outcomes are supported through mindful movement, storytelling and reflection, aligned with existing education frameworks.
-
In education settings, Wayapa is shared through:
Earth mindfulness
Storytelling and narrative reflection
A physical sequence of 14 Wayapa Element movements
Age-appropriate action to care for the environment
These practices are designed to be accessible, adaptable and meaningful across different ages and learning contexts.
-
Educators are highly skilled in supporting children’s wellbeing, but are often under significant pressure themselves.
Wayapa professional learning supports educators to:
Reflect on their own wellbeing and self-regulation
Reconnect with purpose and values
Model calm, grounded engagement for children
Embed wellbeing practices without adding to workload
By working within existing routines and frameworks, Wayapa supports sustainable practice rather than additional burden.
-
Indigenous knowledge in education
Wayapa is informed by Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing, and supports respectful engagement with concepts of Country, reciprocity and custodial responsibility.
In education contexts, this knowledge is shared through:
Storytelling and narrative reflection
Mindful movement and embodied learning
Observation of natural rhythms and cycles
Age-appropriate environmental action
These approaches support learning experiences that are relational, grounded and meaningful for children and educators alike.
Early years Education
How Wayapa supports Early Years programs and funding
Wayapa offers dedicated programs for early learning services, aligned with early childhood frameworks and funding requirements.
-
The Wayapa Early Years Learning (EYL) Program supports early learning services to build consistent, embedded wellbeing practices for educators, children and families.
Using a strength-based, layered approach, the program helps services integrate connection, inclusion and care for Country into everyday practice — rather than as isolated activities.
The EYL Program provides a practical framework to support:
Holistic wellbeing
Connection to nature and place
Inclusion and belonging
Reconciliation and cultural connection
Sustainability and custodial responsibility
-
In early learning environments, Wayapa is delivered in age-appropriate, play-based ways that align with existing routines and learning frameworks.
Educators and children engage in short, intentional experiences that may include:
Gentle mindful movement and breathing
Storytelling and shared reflection
Noticing and responding to natural rhythms and surroundings
Simple acts of care for the environment
These experiences are designed to be flexible and easily embedded into everyday practice — supporting wellbeing, inclusion and connection without adding pressure to educators or children.
-
Wayapa Wuurrk has been an approved provider on the Victorian School Readiness Funding (SRF) Menu since 2022.
This allows eligible kindergarten services to use SRF funding to deliver our programs - which support one or more of the three priority areas:
Communication (language development)
Wellbeing (social and emotional)
Access and inclusion
